In the first half of 2024, Moroccan watermelon exports to the European Union decreased by 50.31% to 85,090 tons, yet Morocco remains the EU's second-largest supplier after Spain. Spain's exports also fell by 51.81% to 149,630 tons, holding a 23.46% market share. Overall, EU watermelon imports dropped by 34.59% to 637,820 tons, valued at EUR 534.09 million. Despite the decline, Morocco's watermelon sales in the EU were valued at EUR 74.72 million, with an average price of EUR 0.88 per kilogram, ranking third in revenue after Spain and the Netherlands. Costa Rica and Senegal were among the few countries that increased their exports.
