Spanish live bovine exports saw a 31.3% decrease in 2022 compared to the previous year, largely due to a surge in animal prices. The exports, which amounted to 69,920 tons, had a value of 239.2 million euros, marking a 10.6% decrease from 2021. The drop was observed across most export destinations, with the exception of Egypt. On the other hand, beef exports in the country experienced growth, reaching 222,797 tons, a 7.6% increase from 2021, and generating 1,212.3 million euros, a 38.3% increase from the previous year. Despite the rise in prices, imports of both live cattle and beef into Spain also saw an increase in 2022.
