Sinan County held a demonstration event for the mechanical harvesting of a new high-oleic acid peanut variety in Jaeum-myeon on the 22nd to actively respond to rural aging and rising labor costs. The event was attended by around 30 people, including peanut-growing farmers and officials from the National Institute of Crop Science. They observed the characteristics of the new variety and the harvesting process using mechanized equipment such as a ridge cover machine, underground crop harvester, and peanut dehuller. The new varieties introduced, Haeol and Keiol 2, have an oleic acid (omega-9) content of over 80%, which is beneficial for cardiovascular health and resistant to spoilage, making them functional varieties with excellent storage and distribution capabilities. Additionally, these varieties are shorter than previous ones, reducing the risk of falling.
