The Sugar Smart Challenge (SSC), a initiative by Singapore's Food Manufacturers Association (SFMA), aims to combat diabetes by encouraging the reduction of sugar consumption in the country. Eight teams, including ready to drink beverage company PS Food & Beverage and gelato firm Momolato, are participating in this 12-month project that guides them in creating sugar-reduced or sugar-substituted products. The goal is to develop tastier and healthier options that can replace sugary drinks and foods, with the selected products set to be retailed in Sheng Shiong, a local supermarket chain, to gauge consumer response. The initiative is a collaborative effort by the Health Promotion Board, Enterprise Singapore, and Innovate 360, focusing on sugar reduction as a top consumer and manufacturer concern in Singapore, a country with one of the highest diabetes prevalence rates in the world.
