The South African potato industry has reassured the public that it will be able to meet the country's demand for French fries, despite heavy anti-dumping duties imposed on Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands last year. Acting marketing manager of Potatoes SA, Jaco Koekemoer, confirmed that South Africa has a sufficient supply of fresh potatoes and is capable of meeting the demand for frozen chip manufacturing. However, the industry faces challenges such as load shedding and the availability of cheap imports.
