Strawberry farms in southwestern Japan, specifically in Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture, are currently harvesting a rare variety of white strawberries with red seeds. Developed by local grower Ide Shigeo, these strawberries are known for their mild sweetness and aromatic flavor, with larger ones fetching up to 700 yen each. This year's crop has benefited from abundant sunshine since September, enhancing the fruit's flavor. The strawberries are sold at local farm stands and department stores in Tokyo and the surrounding area, and some are also exported to Hong Kong.
