The São Paulo State Department of Agriculture and Supply's Agronomic Institute (IAC) is developing a genetically improved, biofortified sweet potato cultivar with increased beta-carotene concentration and productivity. The project, expected to complete in August 2021, aims to provide a nutritious and productive variety for São Paulo and similar climate and soil conditions. The sweet potato, known for its pest and disease resistance, is also valued for its culinary and industrial uses. The new cultivar is expected to be registered and available in mid-2022, addressing issues of low productivity and technological advancement in the sector.
