Spain will adopt new control measures in areas of special irrigation and surveillance starting from November 10 following an increase in cases, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) has stated. The MAPA has assured in an order published this Wednesday that in recent weeks there has been an increase in cases detected in both wild birds and poultry, indicating a "trend towards the worsening of the situation with the consequent increase in risk for Spain". According to the latest update on the epidemiological situation in the European Union (EU), Spain concentrates 14 of the 139 outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza in poultry detected in the EU between July 1 and November 5, 2025. The increase in cases, the forecast of falling temperatures in Spain in the coming weeks, and the maps of comarcal risk of the presence of the virus make it advisable to increase the level of risk and apply mitigation measures, according to the Ministry.
