The Spanish beef sector experienced a 15% growth in 2024, reaching a value of €4.641 billion, driven by both increased production volume and higher prices. The sector, which accounts for 17% of Spain's livestock production, saw a 7% growth in exports, totaling €1.65 billion. Despite a 2% decrease in the national cattle population, the sector maintained profitability. The Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) 2024 results were also discussed, along with the potential opportunities and challenges of the EU-Mercosur agreement for the Spanish beef sector. The sector will face new access requirements for eco-regimes and will need to adhere to a new EU deforestation regulation starting in 2026, which could increase production costs.
