The Svalbard dome, a global scientific infrastructure, houses over 1 million seeds from nearly all countries, making it the world's largest collection of agricultural biodiversity. Funded by organizations like FAO and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, it aims to combat climate change and global threats by conserving plant genetic resources. Spain, with its unique conservation system and rich biodiversity, has not yet sent any seeds to Svalbard, despite contributing to the FAO. The process of selecting and preparing 1,080 Spanish varieties for deposit at Svalbard is underway, with a 10-year deposit period that can be renewed.
