Spain records 13% more rainfall than usual in the current hydrological year

The average value of accumulated precipitation for the current hydrological year (from October 1, 2024, to July 1) amounts to 624 liters per square meter, which represents a 13 percent increase compared to the normal value for this period, situated at 554 liters per square meter. This pluviometric surplus has been recorded in a large part of the peninsula, with "especially notable accumulations" in Murcia, the Valencian Community, the western half of Andalusia, the Central System area, and the western half of Castilla-La Mancha, according to data from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). In contrast, rainfall has been lower than usual in a strip of the Cantabrian coast, which includes southern Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria, and the western half of the Basque Country, as well as in the southeastern quadrant of the peninsula, except in Murcia, where average values were exceeded.
