Spain has recovered the first position among the world's largest watermelon exporters in 2024, after yielding that privileged spot to Mexico the previous year, according to a report by Hortoinfo based on primary figures obtained through the United Nations Statistics Division (UN), COMTRADE. Until 2017, Mexico exported a larger volume of watermelon than Spain, but in that same year Spanish exports reached a higher volume than Mexican ones, until in 2024 Mexican exports surpassed Spanish ones, taking the scepter as the world's largest watermelon exporter by volume, which in 2024 has returned to Spain. Exports by Countries in 2024In 2024, between Spain and Mexico, the two largest watermelon exporters by far over the rest of the countries, exported almost four out of every ten watermelons dispatched worldwide.
