The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food estimates an initial national citrus production capacity of 5.44 million tons for the 2025/2026 campaign, which began on September 1. A forecast presented this Tuesday by the Secretary General of Agrarian Resources and Food Security, Ana Rodríguez, during the sectoral table meeting with participation from the main representatives of the sector. According to the capacity, based on data from the producing autonomous communities, the expected production will be 655,000 tons lower than last campaign (-10.7%) and 14.2% lower than the average of the last five campaigns. This makes it the lowest harvest in the last 16 years. The decline is mainly due to excessive spring rains, high temperatures during critical periods of fruit development, and hail episodes in various cultivation areas.
