Spanish minister details possible impacts on trade after PSA outbreak

The Minister of Agriculture informed, last Saturday, at a press conference, on the situation of ASF in the country and how the Ministry is working to minimize the commercial consequences of the disease's appearance. Spain exports annually approximately 8.8 billion euros in pork products to 104 countries, of which 5.1 billion euros (58%) are destined for the European Union. The Minister stressed that exports to the EU remain unchanged, except within a 20 km radius of the locations where the two infected wild boars were found, from which exports are prohibited. Regarding Third Country markets, exports amount to 3.7 billion euros, of which 1.1 billion corresponds to the Chinese market. Of the 104 countries, 44 require specific sanitary requirements for African Swine Fever, of which 24 recognize regionalization and 20 do not.
