On February 22nd, shortly after the confirmation of an atypical case of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (EBB) in Marabá, Pará, our livestock department, represented by Mr. Luis Zillo, asked the president of the Sectorial Chamber of the Beef Production Chain of the Ministry of Agriculture, André Bartocci, so that the subject of the revision of the protocol was discussed as a matter of urgency. We believe that an atypical case of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy cannot have sanitary weight, since it is a degenerative disease and, therefore, without risks for the Brazilian herd or for the health of consumers. In addition, Brazil has an 'insignificant risk for EBB' status recognized by the World Organization for Animal Health, since our herd is raised on pasture and our legislation prohibits the use of animal feed for ruminants.
