The article highlights the limited availability of land for potato cultivation in a certain country, with the majority of land located in Welimada, Nuwara Eliya, and Jaffna. Due to the superior quality of locally grown potatoes, domestic demand exceeds that for imported potatoes. However, the country is still required to import a significant amount of potatoes to meet its annual consumption demand of 230,000 metric tons, with a harvest of only 14,400 metric tons expected from 4,581 hectares of cultivation in spring and high season combined.
