Turkey: Annual income from kiwi production is 100 million TL

Harvest continues in Ordu kiwi, Turkey's first kiwi with a 'geographical indication certificate'. This year, more than 5 thousand tons of harvest is expected from kiwi, which has a significant yield loss compared to previous years, and it is aimed to provide an economic contribution of 100 million TL to Ordu province. Kiwi production, which was planted in Ordu in 1993 to provide additional income alongside hazelnuts, is becoming widespread. Kiwi, which started as a hobby 30 years ago, received a geographical indication certificate in 2019. While approximately 9 thousand tons of kiwi was produced throughout the province in previous years, this year the yield decreased to 5 thousand 5 thousand 500 tons due to weather conditions, diseases and pests.
