Brazil: State public irrigation producers will produce seeds in the high backlands of Sergipe

Okra, pumpkin, eggplant, jalapeño pepper and onion seeds will be the newest items to be produced from irrigation in the California Irrigated Perimeter, in Canindé de São Francisco, in the high backlands of Sergipe. With water for irrigation and agricultural technical assistance provided by the Government of Sergipe, irrigating producers became partners with a national industry. Agristar do Brasil will provide inputs for the cultivation of 12.2 hectares of plots of eight irrigators located within the California perimeter. Levi Ribeiro, president of the Rural Development and Commercialization Cooperative of the California Irrigated Perimeter (Coofrucal), explains that 2.5ha of okra have already been planted and that they are preparing land and inputs for the rest of the area. “We are still developing the seedlings for transplanting next month.
