In April, Norway experienced a significant shift in its cod market due to declining wild cod quotas and increasing farm-reared cod production. Exports of fresh wild cod fell by 35% in volume and 26% in value, while farmed cod exports rose by 16% in volume and 52% in value, accounting for 24% of total fresh cod exports. Other successful exports included Arctic cod, frozen cod, dried cod, and salted cod to mainland Europe and Asia, with China witnessing the most substantial growth in revenue for frozen cod. Portugal, Spain, and Italy were the leading markets for salted cod, despite a slight increase in export value, with Italy seeing a notable 41% rise in volume to Italy.
