Strawberries sold in Lima and Callao markets were found to contain high levels of pesticides, exceeding Peru's acceptable limits, according to a report by the international laboratory Mériux Nutrisciences and consumer protection lawyer Jaime Delgado Segarra. The samples contained multiple pesticide residues and were collected from five markets in Lima and one in Callao. This raises concerns about the health risks to consumers and highlights the need for improved surveillance of agricultural products in Peru, despite its strict export standards. The report criticizes the lax regulations for local produce and points out the deficiencies in Peru's National Agrarian Health Service, responsible for food safety.
