Strong opposition to the eventual application of a safeguard against meat in China

Authorities from the Argentine Beef Promotion Institute (Ipcva) met this Tuesday in China with officials from the Ministry of Commerce of that country and expressed their rejection to the possible application of safeguards against Argentine beef. Delegations from Brazil and Uruguay also held meetings with Chinese officials on the same day. The investigation of safeguards for beef was announced in December 2024, following a request from industry groups that pointed to damages to the Chinese national cattle industry due to the increase in the volume of beef imports between 2019 and 2024. The investigation, which was to conclude in August 2025, was postponed to the end of November and could add additional tariffs or quantitative limits to beef imports from all suppliers.
