The average value of steers in Mercosur countries has increased due to the strong appreciation of Argentine prices, with the Mercosur Steer Index rising to US$3.49 per kilo carcass, its highest since early October. The lack of supply of finished animals in Argentina has caused the price of the export steer to rise, trading at US$4.05 per kilo carcass. The appreciation of the Brazilian real has also contributed to a rise in steer prices in Brazil, now at US$3.29 per kilo carcass. A reduction in supply has also increased the price of males for slaughter in Paraguay, trading at US$3.42, and the special steer for export in Uruguay remains stable at US$3.50.
