A study published in Animal Feed Science and Technology reveals that supplementing weaned piglets with a fish oil product rich in mono- and diglycerides (FOMG) at a dose of 15g/kg dry matter (DM) improves their growth and health during the post-weaning stage. The FOMG, a by-product of fish oil processing, was found to positively affect the gut microbiota, leading to a healthier intestinal environment. Compared to the control diet, pigs fed the FOMG-supplemented diet showed better feed intake, growth, and health indicators, such as lower neutrophil proportions and blood cortisol levels. The study highlights the potential of FOMG as a beneficial feed ingredient for weaned piglets, offering a promising approach to enhance their productive performance and intestinal health.
