In March, sugar exports from Paraná ports saw a remarkable increase, with bulk sugar movement rising by 352% to 419,899 tons and bagged sugar exports growing by 289% to 70,220 tons, compared to the same month in 2023. This surge is linked to a productive sugar cane harvest in 2023 and a global demand for sugar, especially from India. The need to supply this market, along with logistical investments and a drop in Indian production due to the El Niño phenomenon, has driven growth in the Brazilian sugar sector. Consequently, Paraná has emerged as a significant player in global sugar exports, with the Port of Paranaguá ranking as the second-largest hub for sugar movement in Brazil.
