In May, India experienced a 15% increase in edible oil imports, reaching 1.5 million tons, with a notable 12.4% rise in palm oil imports to 769,000 tons at a 4-month high due to lower prices, and a significant 74% surge in sunflower oil imports. Conversely, soybean oil imports decreased by 16.5% to 322,000 tons. The price for imported crude palm oil was $948/t CIF, soybean oil $1,028/t, and sunflower oil $1,035/t CIF. This shift was attributed to increased margins for refined palm oil purchases. From May, the import of palm oil surged from 124.2 to 214 thousand tons. In June, India is projected to import approximately 750 thousand tons of palm oil. Ukraine also saw a 13.7% increase in sunflower oil exports in May, reaching 714.3 thousand tons, the highest since November 2020, due to increased demand from India and Spain. However, the average price of sunflower oil delivered to customers fell by 2.3% from Monday, driven by a decrease in oil prices.
