The article highlights the importance of the three factors - superior lemongrass varieties, cultivation techniques, and the distillation process - in producing high-quality Citronella oil from lemongrass. Cheppy Syukur from the Research and Development Agency of Agriculture at the Research Institute for Spices and Medicinal Plants (Balittro) stressed the need for using superior lemongrass varieties to achieve optimal results. Balittro has developed three high-yielding lemongrass varieties since 1992, which are currently being used for oil production. These varieties are the Mahapengiri type, known for their short stature and enlarged leaf bases. It is recommended that farmers and cultivators shift to these superior varieties to improve Citronella oil production.
