Support for the wine sector in Portugal must reach small and medium-sized grape producers

The European Commission approved on Tuesday, July 9, a support package of 15 million euros from the agricultural reserve for wine producers, which Portugal can complement with 200% of the national budget. The need to leverage support measures for the wine sector is very evident given the difficulties existing in the market, which are felt in an aggravated way by small and medium-sized grape producers (non-wine producers), who are unable to sell their production and when they do, it is at very low prices. This situation, felt by small and medium-sized producers all over the country, is particularly serious in the Douro Demarcated Region, where farmers/wine growers have no prospect of being able to sell their production, there are thousands of Family Farming farms that are at risk. .
