From March 21 to July 6, Iran experienced a 4% increase in tea imports, reaching 17,800 tons with a value of $90.8 million, a 9% increase from the same period last year. The country's domestic tea demand is estimated at 120,000 tons annually. Currently, local production meets only 30% of this demand, with the rest being imported primarily from India and Sri Lanka. The Iranian government has purchased 62,325 tons of green tea leaves from local farmers, a 10% increase from the previous year, at a cost of $15 million. The country's tea plantations, located mainly in Gilan Province, cover 28,000 hectares, with 22,000 hectares being productive.
