The North Sumatra Food Estate (FE) program, initiated by the government and focused on horticultural crops, has been in operation since mid-2020, with 215 hectares of planting completed out of a target 1,000 hectares for 2021. The program, which avoids using forest land, is located in highland areas suitable for horticultural development and has been shown to yield significant crops. The government is working with other ministries and agencies to provide support and improvement to the area, and the University of North Sumatra is providing expertise in agrotechnology. The program has already seen successful harvests and is expected to further boost agricultural production in the region.
