Thailand is considering introducing the "Thailand Durian Fund Bill" to collect taxes and fees from exporters to support the sustainable development of durian cultivation, as the country does not have any fund to help durian farmers despite their high export rates. The durian export tax will be levied at 25 satangs/kg, with the total annual tax revenue estimated to be around 375 million baht. The Thai Durian Fund will set up a committee and allocate the taxes received for durian research and development, quality control, assistance to affected farmers, and administrative expenses, with 25 articles in the law outlining penalties for tax evasion and obstruction of fund staff.
