Thailand is expected to see a 5.2% increase in corn imports for feed, reaching 1.4 million tonnes in 2024, mainly from Myanmar, Cambodia, and Laos, according to the Kasikorn Research Centre. This boost in imports is in response to the growing demand for feed due to the expansion of pig and broiler production in the country. The preference for corn from these neighboring countries is due to the benefits of no import tariffs and lower transportation costs. In the early months of 2024, Thailand's corn imports have already seen a significant rise of 31.73% year-on-year, totaling 240,000 tons, with Myanmar accounting for 40.5% of the imports.
