Thailand's corn imports have seen a significant increase of 83% in the first five months of MY 2024/25, compared to the previous year, despite an expected rise in the country's own corn production by 2%. This increase is attributed to improved weather conditions, expanded planted areas, and higher average yields. However, the average farmgate price for corn has decreased by 7% due to higher local production and increased duty-free imports from countries like Myanmar. This situation is supported by the Thai government's policy, which allows duty-free import of feed corn from February 1 to August 31, 2025, under the Asean Free Trade Agreement, and mandates the purchase of three tons of domestic corn for every ton of imported feed wheat.
