Malaysia's agro-food sector has grown by 4.3% in 2023, accounting for 11.6% of the country's GDP, as reported by Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu. Despite the growth, the Ministry is grappling with food supply issues. It is also studying the rice industry, considering a proposal for a uniform price and grade of rice. In light of allegations of cartels in the paddy and rice industry, the Ministry is collaborating with the Malaysian Competition Commission to conduct investigations under the Competition Act 2010.
