Last year, Spain's almond production saw a 20% increase from the average of the previous five years, but the harvest of 370,000 tons was still lower than in 2020 due to April frost. The country exported 110,000 tons of almonds, including re-exports of peeled almonds from the U.S., until September. However, due to spring frosts and dry weather in 2022, almond production is projected to decrease by 43%, with only 209,000 tons expected. The U.S., the world's second-largest almond producer, is also expected to see a decrease in production by 11% compared to last year and 16% compared to 2020. The starting prices for this season show an upward trend, despite low demand so far, and wholesalers in Uzbekistan are offering peeled organic almonds on Alibaba at $6-11 per kilo.
