The almond market is facing a critical situation due to combined effects of drought, high prices, recession, and reduced harvest. The Sectorial Council of Nuts of Agro-food Cooperatives of Andalusia has raised concerns over the plight of producers, citing lower prices and increased imports of American almonds, sold without origin identification. The council is demanding mandatory labeling to indicate the origin of almonds and is seeking extraordinary aid from administrations to mitigate the impacts of drought, harvest reduction, and marketing difficulties exacerbated by the Ukraine war. The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism has urged the sector to adapt to global uncertainties and maintain focus on traditional European markets, warning against relying on the Chinese market to solve problems.
