The inventory of livestock in the Cauca department of Colombia has significantly decreased, from 340,000 animals to 288,000, according to Hernán Garcés, director of the department's Committee of Livestock. This decline is attributed to disinvestment due to last year's blockades and the deteriorating public order in the department, exacerbated by extorsions, illegal land grabbing, and the presence of armed groups. These issues, along with the collapse of Rosas, have caused supply problems for farms and high costs. Despite these challenges, milk prices for producers remain stable, albeit below the national average. The government is urged to take immediate action and enable alternative routes. A definitive solution is a four-lane road under design since the 1960s, but political will and funding are lacking.
