The Coordinator of Organizations of Farmers and Ranchers of Huelva (COAG) expects to harvest 1.5 million kilos of chestnuts in the Sierra de Huelva region for the 2021 campaign, a decrease from the initial estimate of 1.7 million kilos due to water shortage. The early harvest was mediocre due to lack of water, but the late season, which is expected to make up the majority of the harvest, has benefited from recent rainfall. However, COAG regrets the lack of demand in the domestic market due to hot weather and notes a price disparity in the market, hoping for maintained prices to cover expenses. The chestnut groves in the Sierra de Huelva cover 5,000 hectares, with 3,500 in production, and the campaign is scheduled to end in late November and early December.
