The Scientific Knowledge Observatory on Climate Change of Peru – Climate Science, led by the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP) was recognized by the Government in the new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC 3.0), presented to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The institutional head of the IGP, Hernando Tavera, highlighted that "the official document highlights how the Observatory translates scientific knowledge into useful information for climate management, helping national, regional, and local governments to make more informed decisions and to incorporate science into their public policies." He added that this recognition highlights the role of the Observatory as a key scientific tool to strengthen Peru's climate action until the year 2035.
