In Thailand, the Department of Agricultural Extension, in partnership with Kasetsart University, is spearheading an initiative to promote the cultivation of cassava, a vital economic crop facing a supply shortage despite high market demand. The collaboration focuses on the research and development of clean, durable, and disease-resistant cassava varieties, conducting environmental impact studies and aiming to enhance production efficiency across various plant breeding centers. With a goal to expand cultivation to at least 100,000 rai in the first year, the initiative emphasizes the propagation of superior cassava strains through intensive methods and tissue culture, alongside efforts to certify these clean varieties at a national level.
