The export volume of white rice and common fragrant rice has decreased. The export volume of Thai jasmine rice, steamed millet, glutinous rice, and brown rice has increased year-on-year, especially brown rice which increased by 200%. The top rice export country is Iraq, with 1 million tons; followed by South Africa, the United States, and China (650,000 tons). The Director of the Thailand External Trade Department stated that the outlook for Thai rice exports in 2026 remains severe, primarily due to increased global supply, reduced demand in major markets, a global economic downturn, fluctuations in the Thai Baht, and increased shipping costs due to heightened geopolitical tensions. Favorable factors include some countries increasing their grain reserves due to the tense situation. The plan for 2026 is to export 7 million tons. The plan is to achieve this goal through trade docking with major importing countries, continued promotion of government procurement with China and Singapore, and through hosting exhibitions and online sales.
