A meeting at the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency concluded with the decision to temporarily unload animals, which have been held without food and water for over a week in a truck in the buffer zone between the Kapitan Andreevo and Kapakule border crossing points, at the live animal rest point at the Kapakule border crossing point. This situation arose from a suspended shipment of Romanian cows to Turkey, leading to the death of several animals and concerns about their welfare and potential slaughter in a non-EU country, where humane treatment may not be guaranteed. The meeting highlighted the lack of options for the animals to return to the EU and stressed the need for a quick solution to ensure compliance with animal welfare regulations.
