The EU has reduced exports and increased imports of wheat since the beginning of the season

According to the European Commission, as of February 2, exports of soft wheat from EU countries since the beginning of 2023/24 MY amounted to 18.6 million tons, which is 8% lower than in the same period of the previous season. The largest volumes of grain among the EU countries in the current season were shipped by France (4.6 million tons), Romania (4.5 million tons), Poland (2.5 million tons), Lithuania (1.8 million tons), Latvia (1. 4 million tons), Germany (1.7 million tons) and Bulgaria (1.7 million tons). The main importers of European wheat in 2023/24 MY are Morocco (2.7 million tons, or 14% of total supplies), Nigeria (1.8 million tons), Algeria (1.6 million tons), Egypt (1.3 million tons) and China (0.9 million tons). At the same time, European Commission analysts record an increase in wheat imports by EU countries by 3% compared to the previous season – up to 5.7 million tons.
