The European Union (EU) is set to improve transparency for consumers by changing the labels on honey packages. The new labels will indicate the country of origin and the percentage of real honey from the first four countries of origin. This decision follows a European Commission study that found 46% of honey samples contained excessive amounts of cheaper sugar syrups. The updated measures will enhance controls to detect adulterated honey and improve traceability. The EU may consider similar measures for jams and fruit juices in the future.
