The Cypriot presidency of the EU considers the renewal of fishing agreements with Morocco -currently suspended- and with Mauritania to be of "strategic importance," according to Cyprus' ambassador to Spain, Michalis Ioannou, who spoke to Efeagro. The ambassador highlighted the value of the agreements with Morocco and Mauritania, in an interview about the priorities of the EU presidency of the semester in agriculture, fisheries, food, and trade. The protocol with Mauritania, signed in 2021, is in force until this year and is the most important for the EU in fishing matters; it offers nearly a hundred licenses for community vessels, with Spain as the primary beneficiary, and about fifty vessels benefiting from Andalusia, the Basque Country, Galicia, and the Canary Islands.
