The European Union (EU) has set restrictions until the end of February in 91 municipalities within the 20-kilometer area around the first outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) in the Collserola area (Barcelona), an area where work continues to contain the virus with a force that rises to 1,000 agents. In an implementing decision by the European Commission published this Thursday in the Official Journal of the EU, the community bloc establishes restrictions relating to certain provisional emergency measures in relation to African swine fever in Spain, until February 28, 2026. The restrictions are expanded from 64 to 91 in the counties of Vallès Occidental, Vallès Oriental, Baix Llobregat, Barcelonès, Maresme, Alt Penedès, Anoia, and Bages. The counties with the greatest weight of the pork sector in Catalonia, such as Osona, Bages (Barcelona), and Segrià (Lleida), are excluded.
