The European Commission (EC) has decided to maintain control measures in the area infected by African swine fever in eight counties of Barcelona, according to the regulation published this Friday in the Official Journal of the European Union (EU). A new implementing regulation of the Commission has modified the regulation establishing special control measures for this disease, including the 91 municipalities in the affected area and subject to restrictions in the province of Barcelona until February 28, 2026. Consequently, the implementing decision of the Commission of last December 4 that initially set the provisional emergency measures regarding African swine fever in Spain has been repealed. From now on, the delimited area in these eight counties is to be considered an infected zone, as established after the confirmation of an outbreak of African swine fever in wild pigs in a Member State or area previously free of the disease.
