The European Commission (EC) has approved a proposal to open negotiations for a new fishing agreement between the European Union (EU) and Morocco, as announced this Tuesday by the European Commissioner for Fisheries, Costas Kadis, before the Spanish Parliament. Kadis informed, during his appearance before the Joint Committee of Congress and Senate on the European Union (EU), about the presentation of a "negotiating mandate," which must be approved by the governments of the 27 to open discussions with Rabat on a new fishing convention. The European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans assured that this is a "very important" development in the relationship with Morocco, especially after the ruling of the Court of Justice of the EU that a year ago annulled both the commercial and fishing agreements for contravening the interests of Western Sahara.
