(Chuncheon=Yonhap News) Reporter Yang Ji-woong = The Nonghyup Gangwon Headquarters visited the Samcheok City Donghae-Samcheok-Taebaek Livestock Farmers Association breeding farm on the 3rd to inspect the prevention of livestock diseases during the winter and to carry out disinfection. This field inspection was carried out to prevent the spread of major livestock infectious diseases such as highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI), foot-and-mouth disease, and African swine fever (ASF) during the winter. The Gangwon Nonghyup inspected the operation status of the breeding farm's quarantine facilities and, together with the Livestock Farmers Association's joint prevention committee, held a disinfection demonstration to emphasize the importance of following quarantine regulations and thorough livestock disinfection. To maintain an effective and rapid livestock disease response system during the winter, the Gangwon Nonghyup is operating special quarantine response command centers with 18 city and county branches and 11 livestock farmers associations within the province. In particular, quarantine supply depots in Chuncheon, Gangneung, and Pyeongchang are operating to stockpile initial response supplies such as hydrated lime, disinfectants, and protective clothing to support the prevention of the spread of livestock infectious diseases. Furthermore, 49 joint prevention committees are being mobilized to carry out disinfection activities in vulnerable farms, densely populated livestock areas, and migratory bird arrival sites. Kim Byeong-yong, the head of the Gangwon Nonghyup headquarters, said, "Preventing livestock infectious diseases is most important for preemptive response," and added, "We will strengthen the supply of quarantine materials, on-site guidance, and support for prevention activities in cooperation with livestock farmers associations and local governments." yangdoo@yna.co.kr
