The Animal and Plant Quarantine Department of the General Administration of Customs in China has permitted the resumption of pomelo imports from Taiwan, following a suspension since August 2022 due to quarantine pest concerns. Only pomelos from registered packaging plants and orchards are allowed, with a total of 45 orchards in Hualien County's Ruisui Township appearing on the approved list. This comes as a relief for farmers in the region, who faced challenges such as drought and a reduced fruiting rate, but have seen their crops recover with rainfall from Typhoon Fengmei, resulting in a harvest of high-quality fruit in time for the Mid-Autumn Festival.
