The German Association of the Meat Industry (VDF) has warned of an upcoming pork shortage due to the closure of 41% of pig farms in the country over the past 10 years. This decline has reduced the number of pigs from 28 million to 22.5 million. The VDF claims that this trend could lead to supply gaps in the next four to five months and criticizes the meat industry's low prices, retailers' high margins, lack of prioritization of German meat, and the government's lack of support and excessive regulations.
